President Kagame speech to the MDGs Summit

Yesterday, President Paul Kagame, co-chair of the UN millennium goals (MDGs), was among the select group of leaders addressing the UN summit. In a very concise speech, he reiterated the need for the MDGs to succeed, urging the developing world to do more.

He asked for more cooperation between the wealthy countries and the developing world. Emphasizing that, “we can no longer rely on the goodwill of other nations. We must assume effective leadership; take full ownership of the development of our countries”.

Rwanda has been praised widely for being on the right track to achieve MDGs. But perhaps the low point of the MDGs event is that President Kagame has not been able to meet with the other co-chair, Jose rodrigues Zapatero of Spain. President Kagame led RPF has been accused by a Spanish court for crimes of Genocide.
